Last Race...with Details

First of all, my apologies for the confusion on tonight's race details. Deer Valley, in graciously trying to help promote the event, picked up the information from the last race held at the resort by us (part of the mid-week series) - so there were inaccurate details.

We had a fine turnout, and I hope everyone enjoyed the big course and wonderful Deer Valley trails.

Official Information for Next Weeks Event:
Location: Park City Mountain Resort (lower lot at the bottom of First Time Lift)
Registration: 5:45PM
Race Time: 6:15PM
Course: TBD (definitely a multi-loop shorter course though)

NOTE: There will be no Kids Race at this event, also, we will keep it simple as we the last two races - Mens/Womens categories, everyone does the same distance.

Thanks for the support, we will see you at Park City on Wednesday night.

for those unaware - there is a 50K race at Snowbasin this weekend. Visit their website and browse in the event section. Looks like a really good time.

Mid-Week Racing at The Canyons

We had a great little turnout for our mid-week fun race at The Canyons. We rode up Ambush to Short Swing and then Down Holly's. 4.25 mile loop with a plenty-pak of climbing.

Next week we will race at Deer Valley, looking at hitting a super loop type race (something with Team Big Bear in it???

Meet at Silver Lake - Registration starts at 5:45 and we will MOVE START TIME UP to 6:15. Get there early so you don't miss the start.

See you there.

Final Race Wednesday Night!

The last race of the 2009 Mid-Week Series is upon us sadly enought. These races have far exceeded what was originally envisioned for them, so thanks to everyone for supporting them. Our goal is to be back with these next year!

Payout and points, I'm sure everyone read the handbook posted at the beginning of the year - if you didn't, and missed the first couple of races in Park City, you probably have not clue that only the top 8 races count towards your points. So, because of the missed race with the weather, if you raced all the races you will drop you worst finish (1 race). The results posted in the entry prior to this one should be accurate now, take a look and see where you stand.

We are pleased to announce payout is going to be the exact same as it was last year, even with missed races and increased expenses. Here is the payout table:

Payout Schedule 2008 (SAME FOR 2009)

Expert A: 1. 550 2. 450 3. 350 4. 130 5. 105
Expert B: 1. 475 2. 375 3. 275 4. 130 5. 105
Expert Wmn: 1. 550 2. 450 3. 350 4. 85 5. 85
Sport Men: 1. 400 2. 300 3. 200 4. 150 5. 100
Sport Women: 1. 400 2. 300 3. 200 4. 85 5. 85

TOTAL PAYOUT $6,685

Don't forget you number plate for the number plate drawing, Grand Prize this year is a mid-week season pass to Solitude Mountain Resort. Series cash will be handed out after the race and there will still be the big SWAG drawing as usual. Thanks to our cash sponsors - Coke/Full Throttle, Peak Fasteners, Young Riders and Basin Recreation.

Next week is the last event, but, mark you calendars for 3 more races - we don't want your fitness to slip as you prepare The Park City Point 2 Point (www.thepcpp.com).

Event 2: August 19th @ Deer Valley (Silver Lake)
Event 3: August 26th @ Park City Mountain Resort
These will be stand alone events, no point, no big production - just good clean fun. The course will be a little longer and challenging than our Mid-Week Series races. The times will all be the same for these races: 5:45 Registration and racing at 6:30PM sharp, as there will be no kids races at these events.

The Double-up Week Results

Undoubtably legs are tired are you partook in both of the Mid-week series events this week. The courses were demanding for sure, it'll get everyone ready to rock at the Snowbird Icup race tomorrow.

Thanks again to Deer Valley for hosting us last minute, it is a great venue.

Here are the results, both races are included as well as points info for the entire season.

Keep in mind there will be 3 events in August, one at each of the 3 Park City Resort. Dates and details will be posted in the next week or so.

Results for Race #4 (Solitude #2)

Another great turn out Wednesday night, touch and go on the weather for a moment but we persevered! Below are the results for our 4th event, the second night at Solitude Mountain Resort.

MAKE UP DATE AT DEER VALLEY RESORT

We will be racing at Silver Lake, which is upper Deer Valley. Access Silver Lake by the Guard Road (HWY 224) which heads south out of downtown Park City.

Same time, 5:45 for sign up, kids race at 6:15PM and main event starts at 6:30PM.

We have a great kids loop, in the trees with a ton of fun single track. They will hopefully love it.

The main event is going to climb up homeward bound to the holding pond, and then descend Sunset. Should be a really fun course, especially the downhill.

Tuesdays event will be brought to you by Jan's/White Pine.

Stay tuned for more information - Thanks Everyone.

Mid-Week MTB Racing Update

We had announced a potential makeup race at Deer Valley tomorrow night. It will NOT be happening. Simply not enough time to pull it together.

At Solitude Wednesday night we will be racing the original course again. Next week we will be looking at utilizing the new trail, and will more than likely run the trail up the new section and descend Kruzer again.

See you Wednesday night.

Results for Race #3 (Solitude #1)

Thanks everyone, another wonderful turnout! Great weather, great trails, and fun had by all. Here are the results for this weeks racing.

Next Wednesday we will be at Solitude again, we will absolutely be racing the same course. For the 3rd race at Solitude we are may incorporate some of the new Bess trail, should be fun.

We have not confirmed the Tuesday night make up event at Deer Valley yet. Stay Tuned.

And We Move on to Solitude!

We'll see everyone at Solitude on Wednesday night! No thunderstorms, no rain, just tacky ripping Single Track racing.

The first hundred racers get the new flex-fit Full Throttle Mid-Week Series hat.

We'll see you there.

BTW: We've not decided on a make-up race yet. Leaning towards doing a race Tuesday and Wednesday next week - maybe at Deer Valley.

Cancelled Events - Potential Make-Ups

Some of you have already emailed suggestions on make-up dates for the 2 cancelled dates. Please contiue to post your comments here, or send us emails at riley (at) mountainraceworks (dot) com.

Give us your input on a potential makeup. Would you all be interested in racing twice in one week, maybe once back in Park City? Maybe you don't want to do a makeup event at all - it does affect the payout amounts! Anyway, let us know what you think. Thanks.

ADDITIONAL EVENTS FROM MOUNTAIN RACE WORKS

THERE WILL BE THREE ADDITIONAL EVENTS IN PARK CITY AFTER THE FINAL POINT SERIES EVENT. WE ARE GOING TO ONE EVENT AT EACH OF THE PARK CITY RESORTS. THE DATES WILL BE AUGUST 12, 19 AND 26. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND WATCH THIS SITE FOR MORE DETAILS ON LOCATIONS AND TIMES. PLEASE NOTE: THESE ARE NOT PART OF THE MIDWEEK RACE SERIES FOR POINTS! THESE ARE THREE STAND ALONE RACES WE ARE DOING SIMPLY FOR THE FUN OF GATHERING AND RACING MIDWEEK!

Sorry...Drowned Again - - Race #4 is OFF!

2:00PM update: (RACE #4 CANCELLED) Well, Mother Nature doesn't seem to want us to race! Our contact with the city was just out on the course and feels there is too much standing water currently, and with the real threat of more rain it just didn't make sense to have everyone come and then have to call it off at the last minute.

PLAN: Mark your calendars for next week at Solitude! Park City people, we are talking to you - this is a wonderful venue and the Guard Road pass is open (20 minutes from the town to PC to Solitude). Weather looks like it might finally cooperate.

MAKEUP Races: We are not sure what we will do yet, maybe try to come back to Park City for a final event on the 5th of August. Your suggestions would be much appreciated.

THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING (WE'VE LOST OURS!).

1:30PM update: We have a city official out on the course, looking to make a decision here in the next hour. Stay tuned.

10:00AM update: It is currently overcast and raining off and on up here. We are hoping the weather will get this out of its system this morning and things will clear up for tonight's racing action. Please watch us on twitter @midweekmtb or here for updates. And...keep you fingers crossed. Thanks for you understanding.

RACE #3 CANCELLED

Unfortunately due to the standing water on the trail, and what looks to more on the way, the race has been canceled tonight. City Officials felt 100 racers on the wet trail would not be good - plus, it's never fun to be struck by lightning. We will be back in Park City at Round Valley for next weeks race.

Oh yeah, new course next week. We'll start up the road and make the turn onto Matt's Flat, then take a left and head up to Nowhere Elks. We will climb up to where you will be on the trail junction of Nowhere and Somewhere Elks (ridge top), from there around back to our start/finish area via lower Rambler. About the same distance, maybe a little harder - but not much. Then...we are off to Solitude for Race #5 - June 24th.

Information on Series listed below...See you next week.

New Course???

LOOKING FOR RESULTS FROM WEEK 2? LOOK AT THE POST BELOW THIS ONE. LOOKING FOR INFO REGARDING THE MID-WEEK RACE SERIES - LOOK DOWN A POST OR TWO. THANKS.

Follow us on Twitter: @midweekMTB We'll do our best to give updates on things like when the results are posted, course tweaks, weather cancellations, etc.

So, thinking about rolling the course in a new direction - little more technical, little less than .5 miles longer. Looking for some commentary. Let us know what you think, a few people mentioned it would be fun to change for the last two Park City events.

Race #2 - We Finally Break the 100 Racer Mile Marker!!

IF YOU'RE HERE FOR THE 1ST TIME GATHERING INFO ON THE SERIES, PLEASE READ THE POST 2 ENTRIES BELOW THIS ONE. THANKS.

We ended up with over 100 total races on Wednesday night! We finally break the century barrier - thanks to everyone participating. It looked like we might get a wicked rain storm, but we held in there for wonderful weather.

Here are the results for the event. Please, if you see any problems, leave a comment or email us dsiddoway (at) mountainraceworks (dot) com - We seemed to have a few issue with folks DNF'ing and not checking in with our finish-line crew. If you have a problem on the course and do not finish - please tell them.

Race Results From Race #2

Couple small housekeeping issues. 1. Sandbagging is not cool - after all, we are racing for money. Here is the deal, if you are consistently winning (by a large margin), it is time to move up - and the sooner you do, the better your chances for placing in the new category are. If you wait, and we move you up late in the game - you will lose half of your points as you move up. So move up quickly and minimize your loses. To reiterate: When you move up a class, you take only half of your points - clean and simple. If you move down, you take nothing. The link below outlines most question you may about the series - if not, ask one of us at the race or leave a comment.
2009 Mid-Week Racer Handbook

The second thing I want to clarify, and this is especially important as the size of our participation grows, the raffle and free drink products are for paid racers only. Our Free kids race is made possible through a donation made by Basin Rec and Young Riders. Additionally Mountain Race Works provides free Popsicle's and Clif has generously donated product to cover each racer we have for every event. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Again, thanks to everyone for participating in this wonderful event. Ride On!
